HE CAME UP TRUMPS!

There are miracles and there are coincidences – it’s a matter of one’s beliefs. I believe that a miracle proves G-d’s presence in the world, whereas coincidences are the opposite. They are G-d's way of remaining anonymous. President Trump’s declaration yesterday of the recognition of Jerusalem as the Jew’s eternal capital was almost a miracle. The Balfour Declaration, the UN resolution of 1947, the War of Independence, the Six-day War, etc. were all miracles in my eyes.

Speaking of Jerusalem – it has always been considered the eternal capital of the Jewish people. Jerusalem is mentioned more than 600 times in the Hebrew Bible and has more synagogues per capita than any city in the world. Religious Jews all over the world have always prayed three times a day, facing Jerusalem. In Israel today, everyone has complete freedom of worship. It is the only city in which some 15 different Christian communities live alongside one another.

Jerusalem’s Mount of Olives is home to 150,000 Jewish graves dating back to the 1400’s. During the Jordanian occupation of Jerusalem, Jews were not allowed access to their holy sites and Jewish graves on the Mount of Olives were desecrated.

In comparison, until the Six-day War, when the Old City was recaptured by Israel, it had no particular significance for the Muslims. It was never mentioned once in the Koran, and is considered only the third holiest city in Islam, after Mecca and Medina, both in Saudi Arabia.

Jerusalem has been attacked 52 times, captured and recaptured 44 times, besieged 23 times and destroyed twice over the course of 3,000 years. Many nations have tried to settle in Israel but, only under the Jewish people has it flourished.

When Mark Twain visited in 1867 he wrote: “….. A desolate country whose soil is rich enough, but is given over wholly to weeds… a silent mournful expanse…. a desolation…. we never saw a human being on the whole route…. hardly a tree or shrub anywhere. Even the olive tree and the cactus, those fast friends of a worthless soil, had almost deserted the country.”
