  The unreasoning hatred in this world to the Jewish people is one of the great mysteries of the human story. It is the oldest social disease and, unfortunately,   it has again reared its ugly head in today’s society. Assimilation has not proven the answer. For far more years than London has been the capital of England, Paris of France, Berlin of Germany, etc., Jerusalem has been the eternal capital of only one nation in the history of the world – Israel. Today, JERUSALEM DAY is being celebrated, in  commemoration of 52 years after the miraculous victory of the Six-Day War when Jerusalem was reunited.   Ever since King David declared it the capital of Israel around 1,000 BCE, Jerusalem has remained the focus of the Jewish people. His son, Solomon, built the First Temple there. . Today, 3,000 years later, Jerusalem continues to have unbreakable religious and political significance for Jews. Rabbi Jonathan Sacks refers to Jerusalem as the “beating heart” of Judaism. During these thousands of years, Jerusalem was never divided. My purpose in writing these blogs is in response to negative, orchestrated, and biased media propaganda against Israel. I am not interested in politics per se and am not trying to promote any particular political party. I simply insist that our Jewish voices be heard. It is an uphill job trying to combat the disturbingly slanted press and TV coverage of the horrors happening inside Israel, together with acts of anti-Semitism which have surfaced worldwide – often hidden from the public or trivialized. The Jews have a long overdue reckoning with the world. We hoped that with a country of our own we will have a world in which the Jews do not live subject to the whims of their host countries. No more 1290, when England decided to evict all its Jews. Or Spain, in 1492, when the Jews were given the choice to leave, convert or burn at the stake.
