ISRAEL AND "THE WORLD"
My purpose in writing these blogs is
in response to negative, orchestrated, and biased media propaganda against
Israel. I am not interested in politics per se and am not trying to promote any
particular political party. I simply insist that our Jewish voices be heard. It
is an uphill job trying to combat the disturbingly slanted press and TV
coverage of the horrors happening inside Israel, together with acts of
anti-Semitism which have surfaced worldwide – often hidden from the public or
trivialized.
The Jews have a long overdue reckoning
with the world. We hoped that with a country of our own we will have a world in
which the Jews do not live subject to the whims of their host countries. No
more 1290, when England decided to evict all its Jews. Or Spain, in 1492, when
the Jews were given the choice to leave, convert or burn at the stake. No more
1930’s, when Germany turned from a land of seemingly endless possibilities for
the Jews, to the beginning of a satanic plan to eradicate our People.
What “the World” doesn’t seem to
understand is that, throughout history, whoever abused the Jews were punished
in some way, mostly economically. Spain went bankrupt four times in the decades
following its expulsion of its Jews, while the Ottoman Empire, which welcomed
Spain’s Jews, blossomed. Belgium lost to Holland its status as Europe’s
financial centre in line with the two’s inverted treatments of their Jews.
Belgium attacked its Jews, while Holland welcomed them. In our times, the Western world, which
accommodated the Jews prospered, as the Eastern Bloc and Arab world stagnated
economically. India and China suffered decades of poverty while they were
hostile to the Jewish state. With the normalization of relations with Israel,
they have risen economically.
“The World” would have preferred that,
having survived the Christian and Islamic “successions”, the Enlightenment would have melted us down
into Englishmen, Frenchmen, Germans, etc. “The World” would have preferred that
those members of the Jewish faith, who had survived the carnage of the
Holocaust, repatriate themselves in their respective countries, where they were
not exactly welcomed.
As represented by the United Nations
Organization and the various other international combinations, “The World”
would have preferred that the Jewish faith/people had not come into being in
the first place with its message of purpose, ethics and hope. Jewish national sovereignty
in Israel, having been re-established in 1948, “The World” would have preferred
that the Arabs quickly finish the job of eradicating the reborn Jewish state.
The same U.N. organization has
outdone itself in the vast number of resolutions directed against Israel for
committing “atrocities” such as building in the “occupied” territories, while
ignoring the massacres, ethnic cleansing, civil war, etc. being carried on in
other countries.
The U.N. was silent while 58
Jerusalem synagogues were destroyed by the Jordanians.
The U.N. was silent while the
Jordanians systematically desecrated the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount
of Olives.
The U.N. was silent while the
Jordanians prevented Jews from visiting the Temple Mount and the Western Wall.
70 years ago the entire world stood
by and kept silent.
No more!
Our enemies must be made to
understand that we are here to stay forever – hopefully in peace but, if we
have no choice, by war. Never again will we surrender our country because it is
the only place we can call “home”.
Well put. Kol Hacavod Gloria
